Groom made it to state for the first time in the history of the school in the UIL One Act Play contest. In achieving that goal, both Charity Perry and Cutter Babcock earned honorable mention all-star cast awards. In addition, Groom had the privilege of performing Dark Road in the presence of the plays creator, playwright Laura Lundgren Smith, as well as numerous Groom fans. The winning schools were Abbott, first; Cross Plains, second; and Slidell, third.

As Groom One Act Play prepares for state competition in Bastrop, Texas, they have gotten many messages from surrounding groups asking for one final community performance, and Monday at 7 p.m. is the day....

The cast, crew and directors of Dark Road will be taking their OAP troupe on the road to the state meet for their next performance on April 20 at Bastrop ISD, just south of Austin. Advancing play members include lead director Aimee Fields, junior Jamey Germany, senior Leslie Germany, sophomore Matthew Bowen, senior Charity Perry, junior Chelsey Lamb, sophomore KLeigh Keesee, freshman Justina Coronado, freshman Ginna Miller, sophomore Madison Friemel, freshman Kaylie Ritter, junior Lauren Kuehler, junior Morgan Trevino, freshman Laurel Fields, assistant director Lisa Roskens, senior Garet Rocha, sophomore Cutter Babcock, freshman Cade Linquist, sophomore Corbin Ruthardt, senior Mason Miller, senior Jeff Marshall and junior Chandler LaRoe.

Lights, Camera, Action. On Friday, April 7, the one act play cast and crew left for their regional competition rehearsal in Levelland. Today, their show, Dark Road, can be seen at 3 p.m. in the Helen Devitt Jones Performing Arts Theatre on the South Plains College campus. The message of this play is so powerful, and our students share it so well, that I am definitely expecting this to not be their last performance, assistant director Lisa Roskens said. Director Aimee Fields continues to do an excellent job leading and inspiring this amazing cast and crew.

Groom One Act Play advances to area from bi-district. Area will be Monday, April 3 at Randall High School. This Friday, March 31, will be the community performance at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Arrive early if you would like to purchase the $7 dinner. Serving will begin at 5:30 p.m. Children under school age can eat for $5. Advancing is really great, but in order to keep advancing, we need to keep working hard, senior stage manager Mason Miller said.
