As the editor of the schools online student news site, senior Leslie Germany works to make certain readers of the GroomTigerTimes.com are up-to-date with the information that they need. Germany plans to attend WTAMU in the fall and major in Education. Leslies editing not only makes Groom School shine when it deserves to shine, journalism adviser Lisa Roskens said, but, her work and the work of her staff also make certain the readers of our newspaper have the truth about our school and our community.

Journalism adviser Lisa Roskens prepares yearbook order forms to be sent home with students today, Feb. 27. Spring picture day took place this morning, and all students were included in the all-school photo with their own pair of sunglasses. I want to make sure all yearbook purchases are made as soon as possible so we can make sure we order the correct number of books, Roskens said. April 1 is our due date with the publisher.

The new activity bus is not here yet, but its already sporting its new paint job. The vehicle is expected to arrive soon. Im excited for the new bus since it will be bigger, nicer and ... a lot more comfortable, sophomore Cayden Lambert said.

Feb. 17,  senior Carson Ritter will be signing with Wayland Baptist University to play college football tomorrow, Feb. 17, in the GHS auditorium. Ritter plans on going into pre-med and then hopes to get accepted into medical school. My favorite memory of Groom is the State Championship run; specifically the Loraine game. Ritter said, The eruption of the crowd when we won will always be remembered in my mind.

The names of two suspects involved in an officer-involved shooting incident with deputies from the Carson County Sheriffs Department have been released.  The deputies were placed on administrative leave with pay. We place officers on three days paid administrative leave as per our policy for any officer involved shootings,  Brand said. We have to cover the shifts with our existing officers when an officer(s) is on leave.

The senior class will be hosting a raffle for this quilt tonight, Feb. 3, during Senior night, and tomorrow, Feb. 4. during the junior high tournament. Tigers and Tigerettes will be playing White Deer today, starting at 6 p.m. Senior recognition will be between the girls and boys games. The raffle tickets for the quilt will be $1. The scheduled drawing for the yearbook raffle has been delayed to allow the focus to stay on the seniors tonight, adviser Lisa Roskens said. Im excited for senior night, senior Caroline Britten said. We have a lot of special things happening throughout the games.

High school students traveled to Pavs Tire Services yesterday afternoon to learn how to check oil, use a tire gauge, etc. On STAAR Wednesdays, high school students spend time preparing for college and adulthood. It was a good learning experience for those who didnt know what they were doing, senior Jeff Marshall said.

Senior Mason Miller picks up a hose on the back of one of the fire trucks at the Groom Volunteer Fire Department. Millers  dream of becoming a fire fighter is something hes wanted for quite some time. In May, when I graduate, I plan to do my Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Clinicals, finish my EMT class and gain my EMT-Basic certification, Miller said. After that, I plan to attend the Amarillo Fire Academy.
