Sydney Ritter, Staff Writer/ Designer

Junior Sydney Ritter is currently in her fourth year of journalism. She was the yearbook editor last year but now is a staff writer and designer.  She is active in many extracurricular activities, including many sports and the FBC youth group.

Junior Madison Friemel played girls’ singles. The past two years Friemel has advanced to regionals. She placed first her freshman year, second her sophomore year and first this year. “I felt like I did better on my serves and keeping the ball in play. Although, it was difficult playing with the wind blowing so hard,” Friemel said. “I had a good time, and I hope to do well at regionals.”

Senior Jamey Germany posts- up against one of the Happy Cowgirls in the area round of playoffs. The Ettes lost by 10 points with a score of 46-36. Although Im sad to see it end, this year has been great for us, senior Chelsey Lamb said.  I think we have set the bar high for years to come.

In this game, the boys played White Deer for the second time. The Tigers district record was 4-10. I think the boys improved a bunch, Coach Jay Lamb said. Start to finish. Individual skills got much better.

Editorial writer Sydney Ritter considers the hard realities of the national news involving active shooter events, and her editorial encourages school officials to make certain Groom students are prepared to survive the unthinkable - a school shooting like the one that claimed 17 lives in Florida yesterday. She points out that if it could happen there, it could also happen, even in this small town. Nationwide, there have been 291 school shootings since 2013. I dont want to be pushy, Ritter said. But, I also want to be safe.

The FFA group will be hosting a blood drive Monday, Jan. 15, at 1:30 p.m. In this editorial, writer Sydney Ritter encourages people to donate. There are plenty of excuses not to donate, but the facts and reasons to donate outweigh those greatly, Ritter said.
