Justina Coronado, Staff Writer

Freshman Justina Coronado is the 14-year-old daughter of Andy Sater of Groom. Justina has attended Groom Independent School District for two years and is starting her first year of yearbook and journalism. Coronado is an active participant in track and will be participating in UIL. She is also an active member in FFA. In her spare time she enjoys riding horses as well as spending time with family and friends.

Freshman Colby Britten plays singles against Logan Teal from White Deer. Teal took the victory in this match, which was one of many March 20 match-ups, that kept the Groom courts busy with students from Groom, Hedley, McLean and White Deer. It is a good chance to see how we stack up against our district competition, tennis coach Larry Roskens said of today meet.

Senior Charity Perry high jumps at the Lefors track meet on Friday, March 3, and places third. Track is one of the many things that Perry has participated in throughout her years at Groom. My goal is to make it to state in high jump this year, Perry said.

Senior Cody Kling welds during his dual credit college course. Kling is passionate about family, the outdoors, driving his pickup, hunting and fishing. Hes also a member of the Teen Youth Ministry group at the Catholic church here in Groom. I love the outdoors and spending time with my family, Kling said.

Santa hides somewhere in the midst of these eighth-grade guys, who have been working on a broadcast project in their journalism class. Fifth-grade students Camila Caro, Lexi Ritter, and Jacob and Ryan Ragain learn along with their science classmates why chocolate chip cookies have a smell while theyre baking. Their teacher Dayna Britten took them to the teachers lounge for this Friday, Dec. 2, lesson. It was fun because we got to make cookies and eat them, Ritter said. And, the cookies were really delicious, but what the main reason we did it was to figure out how the smell was created. ... It was because of a chemical reaction.

Vine, 3, was put on life support Oct. 27, and is predicted to go to social media heaven in the coming months. Vine was born in Florida, June, 2012, to Dom Hofmann, Rus Yusupov and Colin Kroll. Twitter, who was already a popular social networking site, adopted Vine in October 2012.

Theres a lot of discussion about the presidential candidates and the race for the presidency.Here at Groom school, the Journalism department took votes from both students and staff members.I feel like Im on a playground watching a bunch of children fight, social studies teacher Jowannah Powers said. Cheerleaders test black-out lights and form hearts to show their love for the Tigers. The black light pep rally always takes place on one Oct. Friday. I like the glowing necklaces, Brock Britten said. The necklaces will be $1 each. Make sure to come to the black-out pep rally on Oct. 21 at 3:20 in the gym and attend the football game at 7:30 p.m. I like when the cheerleaders do their dances, Maci Keesee said especially in the dark!

Cross country members grab their shoes and head for district competition. Junior high and high school boys and girls teams will be running in Shamrock Country Club. They left school around noon today. The nerves are definitely there, junior Chelsey Lamb said. I know its going to be hot, but all I can do is go run my best and hope that its enough to advance me to the next level.
