Senior Caroline Britten is the 17-year-old daughter of Mike and Marla Britten. This is the third year for Caroline to be in the Journalism class as a Feature Editor and women's sports editor for The Times of The Tiger online newspaper. Caroline has attended Groom since kindergarten. She is involved in cross country, basketball, track, UIL, One Act Play and tennis. Caroline also is active in her youth group at Immaculate Heart of Mary.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family.

Sophomore Cutter Babcock jumps over a hurdle in the 110 hurdles race. Babcock was one of the 14 athletes who earned spots to compete at the area meet on April 19. I feel pretty good about advancing in OAP and track, Babcock said. Thanks to the administrations help, the students who advanced in both OAP and track still have a shot to place at state.

I never thought that senior year would get here, senior Leslie Germany said. But, I dont think Im quite ready to graduate. The senior class will be hosting a raffle for this quilt tonight, Feb. 3, during Senior night, and tomorrow, Feb. 4. during the junior high tournament. Tigers and Tigerettes will be playing White Deer today, starting at 6 p.m. Senior recognition will be between the girls and boys games. The raffle tickets for the quilt will be $1. The scheduled drawing for the yearbook raffle has been delayed to allow the focus to stay on the seniors tonight, adviser Lisa Roskens said. Im excited for senior night, senior Caroline Britten said. We have a lot of special things happening throughout the games.

District Basketball Now In Full Swing

The Ettes warm up by running laps around the Lefors gym. The varsity girls traveled to play their district opener, winning 52-14. The game started off rough, but we came back much better in the second half, head coach Nicole Black said. Ultimately, we started off district with a win, which is what we needed.

The Groom Ettes were presented the championship trophy after a big win against the Lazbuddie Lady Longhorns. This past weekend, the Ettes traveled two hours, there and back, there and back, there and back, for a total of twelve hours to play in the Adrian basketball tournament. I was excited because its been awhile since we have won a championship in a tournament, sophomore Madison Friemel said.

A locked security door and a doorbell separate any school visitors from being able to come straight in to interact with students. Students seem unfazed by the extra doors, unless they are locked out before 7:15 a.m. on a cold morning. I think theyre fine, seventh-grader Saffron Eugea said. They do make me feel safer.

I admire her because not only has she endured the treatments, student council adviser Cindy Babcock said. But she has continued to pursue her degree as well as keeping up with her family. National FFA Week is taking the spotlight at Groom School Feb. 22-26. Students schoolwide are participating with the newly re-organized Groom chapter. On Tuesday, October 20, Ag students gathered in the FFA meeting hall to choose the first officers for the new chapter. More than a decade has passed since Groom School has maintained an FFA program for students. Freshman Halle Barkley was voted in as the vice president; Burger won Secretary; eighth-grader Ginna Miller was awarded treasurer; sophomore Chelsey Lamb was voted in as reporter, and freshman Corbin Ruthardt won the Sentinel title.

This past weekend, senior Jacob Clifton attended the ILPC Spring Convention in Austin. There he was awarded the online newspaper Editor of the Year. The paper also made the Distinguished Merit list.
