Junior High Begins Tournament Play

The boys' and girls' junior high teams begin tournament play this week in Miami. For the first games against Fort Elliott, the teams split. The boys won 38-23, and the girls lost 11-34. “It was a hard rushing game, and I think we did a good job,” eighth-grader Colby Linquist said of the boys' event. Both first games were played Jan. 11.

Boys Win 1st Game
Girls Head
to Consolation Bracket

For their first Tournament of the year, the junior high traveled to Miami Thursday, Jan. 11. The Cubs defeated the Fort Elliott Cougars 38-23 for their first game. The Lady Cubs were defeated by the Cougars by a score of 11-34.

Eighth-grader Colby Linquist led the guy’s scoring with a total of 16 points. On Saturday Jan. 13, the Cubs are looking toward their second game against Darrouzett, starting at 10:15 a.m.

“It was a hard rushing game, and I think we did a good job,” Linquist said.

Eighth-grader Payton Trevino led the girls’ scoring with 8 points.

“We all did great,” seventh-grader Zadyn Johnson said. “Of course we have a lot to work on, but we worked as a team.”  

The girls said they look forward to their next game on Jan. 13 against Darrouzett at 11:30 a.m.

“Even though we lost, we worked hard as a team, and we will improve as we go forward,” eighth-grader Payton Trevino said.
