OAP Advances to Regionals
OAP advances to regionals from area. The cast and crew will perform in Levelland on Saturday, April 8. “We are doing much better than I thought we would,” junior actor Jamey Germany said. “I’m very proud of everyone . We wouldn’t be here without each other.”
The Groom One Act Play Troupe will be traveling to Levelland this coming weekend to compete at the Regional One Act Play contest. The cast and crew will be competing on Saturday, April 8, at South Plains College in Levelland.
The estimated performance time will be at 3 p.m. at the college’s Helen Devitt Jones Performing Arts Theatre. Admission will be $3 per show. All shows begin at noon. Six schools will be competing that day for the two spots from Region 1 to advance to the State OAP Finals in Bastrop on April 20. In addition to Groom, Channing, Cotton Center, Miami, Ropes, and Whiteface will be performing.
“I was excited that our students advanced,” director Aimee Fields said. “They performed well, and I felt they were the best play I watched the entire day.”
According to students, they are looking forward to regional competition.
“I’m happy to be advancing once again,” senior actor Jeff Marshall said.
After losing multiple actors this year, students were unsure about how the season would turn out.
“We are doing much better than I thought we would,” junior actor Jamey Germany said. “I’m very proud of everyone. We wouldn’t be here without each other.”
The group has grown together and have put in numerous hours of work throughout the past few months.
“I am so lucky to be able to work with such great people and be able to go down this great journey of success,” junior actor Lauren Kuehler said.
The cast and crew competed at area on Monday, April 3 and earned multiple awards along with an “advancing play” plaque
Awards included these honors: “Best Stage Manager” – Mason Miller; “Best Overall Crew” – Garet Rocha, Mason Miller, Matthew Bowen, Leslie Germany and K’Leigh Keesee; “Honorable Mention All-Star Cast” – Ginna Miller; “All-Star Cast” – Chelsey Lamb and Charity Perry; and “Best Actor” – Cutter Babcock.
