With the cold, brisk air in their faces, the Groom cross country runners lined up to improve their times at Lake Palo Duro in Spearman on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Groom arrived late, causing its junior high girls to run straight for the finish line to even begin the race. Before the day was over, all runners junior high through high school had met the challenge of another meet, and two competitors came home with medals.
“It was a successful meet,” head cross country coach Kylee Armenta said. “Most of the runners showed much improvement.”
While none of the Groom cross country teams won, eighth-graders, Braxton Johnson and Braedon Williams, brought home medals.
“This race was the most difficult because the terrain was harsh,” Williams said.
The course included loose gravel, sandy washouts and hills.
“It was the hardest course we’ve done all year,” Laurel Fields said.
